On this International Women’s Day, we honor a few of the remarkable Ugandan women who have broken barriers, reshaped industries, and inspired future generations. From healthcare and finance to education and leadership, these trailblazers embody resilience, determination, and excellence. Their stories remind us that when women rise, entire communities flourish. So, in no particular order, here are five of the millions of women that inspire us daily.
 
Dr. Sabrina Kitaka – Championing Child Health
A leading pediatrician, Dr. Sabrina Kitaka has dedicated her career to improving child and adolescent healthcare in Uganda. As a senior lecturer at Makerere University’s College of Health Sciences and an advocate for adolescent health, she has played a crucial role in shaping policies and awareness around youth healthcare. Her work continues to impact thousands of lives, ensuring a healthier future for Uganda’s children. Through her compassion and dedication, Dr. Kitaka has become a trusted voice in pediatric healthcare, proving that every child deserves a healthy and happy life.
 
Dr. Maggie Kigozi – A Force in Business and Gender Equality
A medical doctor turned economist, Dr. Maggie Kigozi is a powerhouse in Uganda’s business landscape. As a former Executive Director of the Uganda Investment Authority, she championed investment and economic growth. Beyond business, she is a vocal advocate for women’s empowerment, mentoring young entrepreneurs and pushing for gender equity in leadership and enterprise. Her ability to lead with both strength and grace has made her a role model for many, showing young women that success is limitless when fueled by passion and purpose.
 
Anne Juuko – Redefining Leadership in Banking
As the CEO of Stanbic Bank Uganda, Anne Juuko is a trailblazer in the finance sector. With a stellar career spanning decades, she has broken barriers in a male-dominated industry, proving that women can lead with excellence and innovation. Her leadership has not only strengthened Uganda’s banking sector but also inspired countless young women to pursue careers in finance. Her impact extends beyond the classroom, as she continues to advocate for improved education policies and opportunities for all. With a heart for children and an unwavering belief in the power of education, Barbara is shaping the future of Uganda—one student at a time.
 
Jennifer Musisi – A Trailblazer in Urban Governance
Jennifer Musisi is a name synonymous with transformative leadership. As the first Executive Director of the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA), she led groundbreaking reforms that improved infrastructure, governance, and service delivery in Uganda’s capital.
